Labrat
Labrat was a virtual environment made in the Wild Tangent videogame editor in 1999 and exhibited as a virtual reality peice at the Electrofringe festival in Australia in 2000. Designed to look like a haunted old squat, it was filled with the residue of its inhabitants; neon graffiti peices, stacked television sculptures, a floating videogame arcade and ghetto blasters stuck in graveyards. It seemed retro at the time and it still does, but we allowed an audience to interact with the work using a VR headset. While exploring LABRAT, video clips and soundscapes embedded throughout the squat were triggered, causing an interactive music video effect.
Projection, VR headset, stereo sound, controller.
